NEW RELEASE: Jack Adaptor

Twenty years after the demise of independent rock favourites The Family Cat, singer and lyricist Paul “Fred” Frederick returns with a new record.

J’Accuse! is his latest recording as Jack Adaptor, a duo with songwriting partner Christopher Cordoba, Fred wrote the lyrics and sings the songs and Chris provides most of the instruments, production and mixing skills. It is released on CD, Download and limited edition 180g vinyl LP (includes MP3 download code) on 13th October 2014.

Fans of The Family Cat will recognize the vocal style and find joy in the sophisticated songwriting of Frederick and Cordoba, from up-tempo indie rockers like Number One Record (a tribute to Alex Chilton and Big Star) to atmospheric, genre-defying songs such as V.U. (check out the unpeeled banana!).

Fred refers to J’Accuse! as “a distillation of 20 years thinking about music and the kind of record I really wanted to make. Now I feel I really have something to say and the musicians to give it life”.

2. Get It Right First Time
3. The Circle
4. If Not Now, When

The word on the street…
“there’s no doubting that J’Accuse! is a mighty accomplished piece of work” Isolation Records

“an album full of quality songwriting” No Crowdsurfing

“J’Accuse! is turning out to be something rather special” Andrew Collins

“erudite, eclectic and enormously enjoyable… one of those all-too-rare quietly triumphant records” The Mouth Magazine

“refreshing sunny side up two step buzz bleached power pop deceptively shimmying its way on the blind side through your defences” The Sunday Experience

“intelligent pop music with suss which maintains that there is still something of worth to be done with that form of expression… why is no-one else doing this?” Louder Than War

NEW RELEASE: Echobelly

We are thrilled to announce the re-issue of the first two Echobelly albums.

We have been working with Sonya and Glenn from the band to put together two very special releases for you.

The first is their debut album, Everyone’s Got One. Released in 1994 just as Britpop was taking off, the album crashed into the Top 10 thanks to the blistering singles, Insomniac, Bellyache, Close But… and I Can’t Imagine The World Without Me.

The album saw the band invited to open for R.E.M. (who also cite the album as an influence for their Monster album), Madonna tried to sign them to her label and Morrissey say that they were one of his favourite bands.

A year later, the band had no ‘difficult second album’ syndrome and released On, a Top 5 album with a string on hits including the anthemic Great Things, Dark Therapy and King Of The Kerb.

Both albums will be re-issued on 21st July 2014 as 2CD sets with bonus material compiled by Sonya and Glenn. Each contains key b-sides and unreleased material including their Radio 1 Sessions.

Click here to pre-order both albums from the 3 Loop Music store now. All pre-orders will be signed by Sonya and Glenn.

BOB – Leave The Straight Life Behind

3 Loop Music is proud to announce that BOB are re-issuing of their sole studio album, Leave The Straight Life Behind as an expanded edition with previously unreleased tracks and all of their BBC sessions.

It’s released on Monday 21st April 2014 as a 2CD set and digital download and includes the original album, 3 previously unreleased demos and 20 BBC session tracks including all of their Peel Sessions plus a long lost BBC Radio Humberside session only found when the band’s old manager started rooting around in his attic. The accompanying 16 page booklet includes sleevenotes from the band’s founders, Richard Blackborow and Simon Armstrong.

Starting life in 1986, the band released a series of acclaimed singles, and with each single release, they toured and promised an album. Eventually they got enough money together to release Leave The Straight Life Behind on their own House Of Teeth label in 1991.

Legend has it that a chance meeting with John Peel in the Rough Trade record shop set BOB on the road to becoming a true indie favourite in the late 80s and early 90s, with Peel championing the band throughout their career. CD2 features all of the band’s BBC sessions including the three Peel sessions, plus their Simon Mayo Evening Session and a BBC Humberside session which was thought to be lost and only came to light when the band’s former manager went into his attic to look for BOB related material and found an old cassette!

The album met with rave reviews but due to the collapse of Rough Trade Distribution it was frustratingly difficult to find but thankfully will now be available again for the first time in many years.

NEW: Kitchens Of Distinction for RSD14

We are very pleased to announce the release of our very first Record Store Day release from Kitchens Of Distinction.

The 10” transparent vinyl single, strictly limited to 500 copies, is a 4 track EP featuring the track Extravagance, taken from the acclaimed Folly album, their first long player in 19 years.

Extravagance was inspired by the life of the Marchesa Luisa Casati, and here’s the Kitchens very own Patrick Fitzgerald to explain:
“There are always those who live extraordinary lives providing inspiration for otherness in our own. This monstrous beast of music, a piece KOD originally messed about with in 1996 but which did not come to fruition, suggested that I document/honour the most extraordinary life. Enter the Marchesa Luisa Casati – wildly wealthy, wildly artful, a wild muse to Man Ray/Augustus John/Cecil Beaton etc. Look her up. Read the biography “Infinite Variety”. See her gravestone in Brompton Cemetery, London. There also exists an earlier version of this song, with a different tune and lyric. In this earlier version the extravagance moves from Luisa’s life in verse 1, to those of two gay men whose extravagances, like hers, is their downfall.”

The alternate version of Extravagance is one of the additional tracks on the release along with 2 stripped back versions of I Wish It Would Snow and Drive That Fast, the latter a reworking of their 1991 single.

Extravagance is in stores on Record Store Day, 19th April 2014, on 3 Loop Music.

NEW: Baader Meinhof re-issued

In 1995, Mr Luke Haines found himself with time on his hands after completing The Auteurs third album, After Murder Park.  so he headed back into the studio and recorded Baader Meinhof, an album art project recounting the story of the Baader Meinhof group, a bunch of 1970s West German urban revolutionaries.

Armed with an array of synths, a head full of funk and a super-top classical Indian percussionist, the result is dance music for the brain, movies for the ear.  Just imagine George Clinton producing a malevolent KC and the Sunshine Band all jacked up on militant Last Poets bongo rhyme.

Baader Meinhof is available on CD with 5 bonus tracks including previously unavailable full length remixes and exclusive sleevenotes by Mr Haines.

It is also available on heavyweight 180gsm vinyl

NEW: The Auteurs New Wave re-issued with unreleased tracks

“Made with intent, reissued with intent” Mr Luke Haines

It won’t come as too much of a surprise to you to learn that Mr Luke Haines is one of very most favourite musicians, authors, artists, raconteurs and, well, you get the idea, so it gives us huge pleasure to bring you the re-issue of The Auteurs debut album, New Wave.

New Wave is re-issued on 2CDs with bonus content compiled by Mr Luke Haines, the heart, soul and brains of the Auteurs, Baader Meinhof, Black Box Recorder and various solo projects.

Mr Luke Haines says “Some 21 years later and the album still sounds great. There is not a note that I would change.”

Originally released in 1993 after The Auteurs had issued a demo cassette, landed a tour supporting Suede and had record companies fighting to sign them, New Wave was the vanguard of the emerging, post-Nirvana British music scene.  It was justly nominated for a Mercury Music Prize though the gong was taken by Suede.

The album features the singles Showgirl and How Could I Be Wrong and now includes key b-sides, live and session recordings and previously unreleased demos, taken from the actual cassette that got them signed to Hut Records.

We are also privileged to offer an exclusive and strictly limited edition 12 x 12 art print by Sian Superman that can be ordered with either format of New Wave.

Sian has recreated the New Wave artwork in her inimitable style and the print, signed by Mr Haines, is a gallery standard, fine art Giclee print on satin Hahnemuhle paper.

NEW RELEASE: World Of Twist

World Of Twist The Scene

“World Of Twist were the Roxy Music of their time. I can’t think, or give a better compliment than that” Jeremy Deller

3 Loop Music hare proud to announce the re-release of World Of Twist’s sole album, Quality Street.

The 2-CD package includes the original album, an extra CD of B-sides and radio sessions for John Peel and Mark Goodier and a 24-page booklet featuring extensive sleeve notes by band member Gordon King and rare photos and memorabilia from the World of Twist archive.
The limited edition LP is on heavyweight vinyl and includes an MP3 download of the album.

Originally released in October 1991 on Circa, it included the singles The Storm, Sons Of The Stage and a cover of The Rolling Stones’ She’s A Rainbow.

The band was formed in Sheffield in 1983 by Gordon King and Jamie Fry (who would later make up the core of Earl Brutus with fellow ex-World of Twist-er Nick Sanderson) where their frivolous brand of post modernism, an amalgam of Barry Gray, Roxy Music and Wigan’s Chosen Few, felt woefully out of place next to the likes of ABC and The Human League.

Following a third place behind a Madness tribute act and an early incarnation of Mumford & Sons at a battle-of-the-bands contest at the Sheffield Top Rank, Jamie Fry called it a day and the band returned to their native Manchester where band members Gordon, Tony and Andy decided to continue.

Soon joined by drummer Nick Sanderson, World Of Twist soon became something of a ‘live sensation’ in Manchester, in part a consequence of their Heath Robinson stage sets which involved a lot of things which went round and round, including a hypnotists wheel, revolving mirrored barbers poles and spinning cut-out heads of band members.

Selling out the 1500 capacity Manchester Ritz on December 23rd 1990 (a gig fondly remembered by the Gallagher brothers of Oasis) they would begin recording their debut album in the summer of 1991. Having mixed the record at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in Wiltshire, where Nick would ask a bemused Gabriel to borrow his old Genesis masks for a photo shoot, the band would later spend a day in Tunbridge Wells trying to recreate the illustration on the front of the Quality Street tin for the album sleeve.

Their time following the album release was short lived and it wasn’t long before the band drifted apart, as Tony Ogden remarked; “We spent £250,000 making an album with the smallest bollocks in pop history. The band just fell apart. We were smoking marijuana for breakfast and that led to communication problems. I didn’t want to sing, the guitarist didn’t want to play. When the company didn’t get a hit they threw us in the bin. I was devastated – I spent four years on smack watching Third Reich movies because the good guys always win. I’m really sorry for letting our fans down. But I’d ask anyone to play that World of Twist album 20 times with every dial full on. If it doesn’t rock, come and smash it over my head.”
