NEW RELEASE: Jack Adaptor

Twenty years after the demise of independent rock favourites The Family Cat, singer and lyricist Paul “Fred” Frederick returns with a new record.

J’Accuse! is his latest recording as Jack Adaptor, a duo with songwriting partner Christopher Cordoba, Fred wrote the lyrics and sings the songs and Chris provides most of the instruments, production and mixing skills. It is released on CD, Download and limited edition 180g vinyl LP (includes MP3 download code) on 13th October 2014.

Fans of The Family Cat will recognize the vocal style and find joy in the sophisticated songwriting of Frederick and Cordoba, from up-tempo indie rockers like Number One Record (a tribute to Alex Chilton and Big Star) to atmospheric, genre-defying songs such as V.U. (check out the unpeeled banana!).

Fred refers to J’Accuse! as “a distillation of 20 years thinking about music and the kind of record I really wanted to make. Now I feel I really have something to say and the musicians to give it life”.

Tracklist
1. Number One Record
2. Get It Right First Time
3. The Circle
4. If Not Now, When
5. Zodiac Bones
6. Paper Thin
7. V.U.

“an album full of quality songwriting” No Crowdsurfing

“J’Accuse! is turning out to be something rather special” Andrew Collins

“erudite, eclectic and enormously enjoyable… one of those all-too-rare quietly triumphant records” The Mouth Magazine

“refreshing sunny side up two step buzz bleached power pop deceptively shimmying its way on the blind side through your defences” The Sunday Experience

“intelligent pop music with suss which maintains that there is still something of worth to be done with that form of expression… why is no-one else doing this?” Louder Than War

Jack Adaptor Get It Right First Time

Jack Adaptor Get It Right First Time

Get It Right First Time is the new single from Jack Adaptor and the first to be taken from the forthcoming J’Accuse! album.

Jack Adaptor is the current musical guise of Fred, singer and lyricist of independent rock favourites The Family Cat, with his songwwriting partner Christopher Cordoba.

Get It Right First Time is serious, it’s super catchy, it’s dynamic, and of course, it’s got a Fred rap. It was written and sung by Fred while Cordoba provides most of the instruments and production and mixing skills.

Fred refers to this record as “a distillation of 20 years thinking about music and the kind of record I really wanted to make. Now I feel I really have something to say and the musicians to give it life”

NEW RELEASE: Echobelly

We are thrilled to announce the re-issue of the first two Echobelly albums.

We have been working with Sonya and Glenn from the band to put together two very special releases for you.

The first is their debut album, Everyone’s Got One. Released in 1994 just as Britpop was taking off, the album crashed into the Top 10 thanks to the blistering singles, Insomniac, Bellyache, Close But… and I Can’t Imagine The World Without Me.

The album saw the band invited to open for R.E.M. (who also cite the album as an influence for their Monster album), Madonna tried to sign them to her label and Morrissey say that they were one of his favourite bands.

A year later, the band had no ‘difficult second album’ syndrome and released On, a Top 5 album with a string on hits including the anthemic Great Things, Dark Therapy and King Of The Kerb.

Both albums will be re-issued on 21st July 2014 as 2CD sets with bonus material compiled by Sonya and Glenn. Each contains key b-sides and unreleased material including their Radio 1 Sessions.

Click here to pre-order both albums from the 3 Loop Music store now. All pre-orders will be signed by Sonya and Glenn.

BOB – Leave The Straight Life Behind

3 Loop Music is proud to announce that BOB are re-issuing of their sole studio album, Leave The Straight Life Behind as an expanded edition with previously unreleased tracks and all of their BBC sessions.

It’s released on Monday 21st April 2014 as a 2CD set and digital download and includes the original album, 3 previously unreleased demos and 20 BBC session tracks including all of their Peel Sessions plus a long lost BBC Radio Humberside session only found when the band’s old manager started rooting around in his attic. The accompanying 16 page booklet includes sleevenotes from the band’s founders, Richard Blackborow and Simon Armstrong.

Starting life in 1986, the band released a series of acclaimed singles, and with each single release, they toured and promised an album. Eventually they got enough money together to release Leave The Straight Life Behind on their own House Of Teeth label in 1991.

Legend has it that a chance meeting with John Peel in the Rough Trade record shop set BOB on the road to becoming a true indie favourite in the late 80s and early 90s, with Peel championing the band throughout their career. CD2 features all of the band’s BBC sessions including the three Peel sessions, plus their Simon Mayo Evening Session and a BBC Humberside session which was thought to be lost and only came to light when the band’s former manager went into his attic to look for BOB related material and found an old cassette!

The album met with rave reviews but due to the collapse of Rough Trade Distribution it was frustratingly difficult to find but thankfully will now be available again for the first time in many years.

NEW: Kitchens Of Distinction for RSD14

We are very pleased to announce the release of our very first Record Store Day release from Kitchens Of Distinction.

The 10” transparent vinyl single, strictly limited to 500 copies, is a 4 track EP featuring the track Extravagance, taken from the acclaimed Folly album, their first long player in 19 years.

Extravagance was inspired by the life of the Marchesa Luisa Casati, and here’s the Kitchens very own Patrick Fitzgerald to explain:
“There are always those who live extraordinary lives providing inspiration for otherness in our own. This monstrous beast of music, a piece KOD originally messed about with in 1996 but which did not come to fruition, suggested that I document/honour the most extraordinary life. Enter the Marchesa Luisa Casati – wildly wealthy, wildly artful, a wild muse to Man Ray/Augustus John/Cecil Beaton etc. Look her up. Read the biography “Infinite Variety”. See her gravestone in Brompton Cemetery, London. There also exists an earlier version of this song, with a different tune and lyric. In this earlier version the extravagance moves from Luisa’s life in verse 1, to those of two gay men whose extravagances, like hers, is their downfall.”

The alternate version of Extravagance is one of the additional tracks on the release along with 2 stripped back versions of I Wish It Would Snow and Drive That Fast, the latter a reworking of their 1991 single.

Extravagance is in stores on Record Store Day, 19th April 2014, on 3 Loop Music.

TRACKLIST

A2: I Wish It Would Snow (Live In Studio recorded for KEXP Radio)*
B1. Extravagance (Demo/Original Lyric Version) *
B2. Drive That Fast (Live In Studio recorded for KEXP Radio) *

“KOD’s first album in 19 years reassembles the heady blend of poetics and lush textures that made them, secretly, one of the best British bands of the early ’90s” UNCUT – 7/10

“History rarely gets to be rewritten, but it seems that Kitchens Of Distinction may at least succeed in adding a new chapter to their tale.” THE QUIETUS

“Folly ranks alongside their best work” THE SCOTSMAN

“a genuine stunner; the strongest, most breathtaking album I’ve heard all year. A noisy, beautiful masterpiece.” POP MATTERS – 9/10

“’Extravagance’ is a career defining mission statement” [SIC] MAGAZINE – 8/10

“a nerve-wracking album filled with lots of post punk energy… if you were to tie Paul Banks and Daniel Kessler of Interpol to chairs and force them to confess they would certainly be quick to admit to have found a good portion of their tracks by listening to Kitchens of Distinction” MUZIK EXPRESS (GERMANY)

“Folly rivals 1991’s Strange Free World as their best – dazzling waves of multilayered/colored sounds… can we hope for more albums like this masterpiece?” THE BIG TAKEOVER (USA)

STEVE LAMACQ, BBC RADIO 2013
